Marcie Kissko, RD, LD
(she/her)
A native Texan and longtime Austinite, Marcie completed her undergraduate degree and dietetics internship at the University of Texas at Austin - hook em’ horns!
Marcie grew up loving to help out her mom in the kitchen and feels grateful for the fun, positive food environment that was established in her childhood. Marcie struggled with an eating disorder in highschool and college and her childhood love of food and cooking was one of the main support tools aiding in Marcie’s recovery. As a result of her own experiences, Marcie loves supporting individuals on their nutrition recovery journey, and works with all individuals throughout the life cycle including young kids, teens, pregnant individuals, and families. She is passionate about helping her clients break free from the harmful cycle of disordered eating and assists them in reconnecting with their body’s self-care wisdom. She believes that eating should be flexible, nourishing, and pleasurable, and works with clients to remove stress, fear, and anxiety around food. In addition, Marcie loves helping families create fun, supportive relationships with food, their bodies, and movement and helps create a supportive environment surrounding the dinner table.
Marcie particularly enjoys working with clients of all ages who struggle with ARFID (Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder) and emphasizes the client’s autonomy and independence in their recovery process. Marcie believes that all individuals are experts of their own body and enjoys supporting clients in finding body attunement and learning to build body trust.
Through her interactions with kids of all ages, Marcie has seen the negative effects of diet culture in kiddos as young as 6. She believes that all children and teens deserve to grow up feeling confident and empowered in their bodies without the harmful effects of size-ism and perfectionism interfering with who they are meant to be. Marcie’s dream for all kids is that they honor their innate ability to feed themselves so that they can get back to what’s important - being a kid!
Marcie also has extensive experience working with parents of kiddos with food allergies and special dietary needs. Marcie focuses on meeting the client’s nutritional needs within their dietary restrictions, and offers practical, realistic food safety management solutions. Having recognized that food allergies can provoke feelings of fear, stress, and anxiety, especially in young kids, Marcie also helps her food allergy kiddos improve their confidence, independence, and self-advocacy skills. Marcie is aware of the overlap between food allergies and disordered eating, and works to make sure that her clients with food allergies have a healthy, flexible relationship with food and their bodies.
Outside of the office, Marcie is a passionate volunteer at Austin Animal Shelter and spends at least a few days a week walking the amazing city shelter dogs. Marcie also loves vinyasa yoga and considers this one of her key coping skills in managing her anxiety and handling all that life throws at her. Marcie is a proud resident of Austin’s east side and lives with her husband and 13 year old, 100% spoiled rat terrier, Bubbles.
Marcie is a registered and licensed dietitian in the state of Texas and Nevada. She is engaging in both in person sessions at our Central Office and telehealth sessions.
