Tabitha Fithian, MS, RD, LD
(she/her)
Lead Dietitian, Program Assistant Director
Tabitha completed her undergraduate and graduate studies in Nutrition and Dietetics at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA. Her passion for the field was ignited by a personal diagnosis of Type One Diabetes, which introduced her to the complexities of diet culture and nutrition care. After navigating her own journey through disordered eating, Tabitha became deeply committed to understanding how nutrition care could foster autonomy, collaboration, curiosity, and genuine connection.
During her graduate program, Tabitha gained extensive experience working with a variety of medical diagnoses, including a significant focus on diabetes care. She believes that in the intricate process of managing chronic illness, it's essential to align medical nutrition therapy with what is practical, beneficial, and realistic to your individual life.
A core feature of Tabitha's approach is empowering clients through autonomy. She believes that true, sustainable change is facilitated when clients are actively involved in their care process and are encouraged to make informed decisions about their nutrition and well-being. By fostering a supportive and collaborative environment, Tabitha helps clients build confidence and take ownership of their health journeys.
Tabitha is dedicated to promoting a thoughtful and empathetic approach to nutrition, valuing transparency in her sessions. She is passionate about advancing accessibility, social justice, and equality within the field of nutrition and is committed to ongoing personal and professional growth to better understand these dynamics.
One of Tabitha’s greatest joys is exploring the origins of individuals' relationships with food and their bodies through conversation. She deeply values the collaborative process of uncovering these roots and understands the complexities involved in achieving a healed relationship with food and body, especially while managing chronic illness. Despite these challenges, she is confident that finding peace with food and one's body is achievable. Tabitha finds great joy in seeing her clients' personalities, passions, and hobbies thrive as they transition from diet culture towards freedom and recovery.
In her career, Tabitha has developed a particular passion for working with individuals who have chronic health conditions, identify as neurodivergent, and feel constrained by conventional approaches to well-being.
In addition to her client work, Tabitha serves as the Program Development Assistant on the TLB Lead team. In this capacity, she plays a vital role in supporting new dietitians through their education and training, developing and enhancing TLB’s educational resources to improve client care, assisting with quality control processes, and acting as a primary resource for education and training support for the TLB staff.
Beyond her professional work, Tabitha cherishes her role as a parent and delights in spending time outdoors. She takes pleasure in creating a cozy home environment and finds joy in sharing laughs during her sessions. In her free time, you might find her watching a funny video, swimming with her yellow lab, Maple, or engrossed in a good book.
Tabitha wants you to know that above all, she genuinely cares about your well-being and is here to support you every step of the way. She looks forward to working together to achieve your goals and is committed to helping you make meaningful progress.
